Pornhub has blocked anyone in Utah from accessing its content to protest the state’s online age verification law that recently went into effect. Republican Gov. Spencer Cox signed the law in March. It requires companies that publish pornography or adult content considered harmful to children to verify a user is an adult. According to the law, failure to “perform reasonable age verification methods” means that those companies can be held liable. Many on the left criticize Republicans, saying they’re once again pretending to protect children while infringing on rights and restricting information about health and gender. Many on the right believe it is imperative to protect kids from porn, and that Pornhub relies on targeting minors. Today, we’re going to break down some arguments about this with views from the left and right, then my take.
